One thing is for certain, we live in uncertain times. Maybe you graduated from college and have no idea what your career looks like. Or you have just moved to a new area and do not know a single person. Or you have started a new job and are faced with uncertain challenges. Maybe you are wondering where your next meal will come from. Whatever it may be, this place of uncertainty is scary.
We as humans are wired to want to control our circumstances. Our minds crave certainty. We enjoy the stability that comes from knowing our future. We like to think we are in control of our own fate. We look to external sources for certainty and to reinforce a sense of balance and control. So it’s totally understandable when “the boat” gets rocked and we find ourselves in a place of uncertainty.

The problem with living like that is we are living in fear and not trusting God. We miss the opportunity to release our grip on life’s circumstances and give it to God. No matter what, when we turn to Him, He will respond. This doesn’t mean He is going to remove all the trials and suffering immediately, but it does mean He will guard us through them. Nothing is beyond His control.
There is an opportunity when uncertain times come about in our lives. We have the opportunity to respond in a God-honoring way. This place of uncertainty gives us the chance to grow in our faith and dependence on Him. We are molded more into the image of His Son when we lean into His faithfulness and all the good that He has in store for us.
Bible Verses About Uncertainty
Jesus does not want us to be governed by fear in uncertain times. The security we crave for can only come from one source – Jesus. None of us are secure in this world except in Christ. Where can we go to find hope in uncertain times? We can read the Bible. God uses His word to encourage our hearts.
Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”.
Psalm 32:8: I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel.
Romans 8:32: He did not even spare His own Son but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything?
Matthew 6:31: So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’
Ephesians 2:10: For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.
Isaiah 26:3: You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.
Psalm 46:1: God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.
Philippians 4:6-7: Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written: What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind— God prepared this for those who love Him.
Zephaniah 3:17: Yahweh your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will bring you quietness with His love. He will delight in you with shouts of joy.
1 Peter 5:6-7: Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.
God Is For Us
The same God who is with us during good times is also with us during uncertain times. God does not abandon His children. So give all your worries to God. He is ready to hear our worries and concerns when we come before Him with a humble heart.
God is for us. Our future and our provision are certain to God. Can you trust that God will provide for you even if you don’t know what that looks like in the future?
A place of uncertainty is where God is growing you to fulfill His will. He is molding you and shaping you into the image of His son so you can spread the Gospel. He is teaching you to depend on Him as your source of strength. Remember that He loves you!
Trusting God In Uncertain Times
In uncertain times, remember whose you are and what He has done for you. Cultivate a memory of the faithfulness God has shown to you. This will give you the strength to respond to present challenges. God is with you, for you and has made promises to you. When you trust in God, you will find calm and confidence in His ability to lead and guide you.
Prayer for Uncertain Times
God works best when we allow Him to. When we let go of control and allow Him to work in His perfect and unique way. Only then are we given the precious gift to grow, to heal, and to experience freedom. We just have to take that first step – giving God control. He has so much goodness in store for our lives!
My wish for you is that you would spring faithfully and confidently into whatever life presents you – convinced that God will provide you with exactly what you need. Join me in prayer for uncertain times with the following prayer:
“Lord, I thank you that I can come into communion with you today. We are living in times of uncertainty and I am exhausted. Father, hear the deepest cries of my heart. I come before you weary, burdened and afraid. Father, I give my current circumstances and my future to you. I come before you because you are good and have authority over everything. You alone can rescue me from fear of uncertainty. All I have, I give to you, Lord. You can redeem and restore all that is broken. Give me the strength to trust in you with all my heart, mind and soul, Lord. In His Name, Amen.”

The message is life changing bless you
Embracing uncertainty is always a work-in-progress. As you said, we want to be in control and it resting in God’s hands is a challenge many times. The prayer is wonderful.
There is so much uncertainty in the world- I just have to remember our Sovereign God is in control and He can be fully trusted. Loved your prayer at the end. Was curious about the translation you cited, I had never heard of it before. I checked it out, and it sounds amazing!
It’s so hard at times to embrace uncertainty however we rest and have peace knowing God is sovereign and in control of ALL things. Great Post
It is never easy to embrace uncertainty, but you are right that when we understand that God is for us, it becomes a lot more do-able.
Letting go and turning to God during uncertain times is the only way. Sometimes that’s hard to do, but leaning into Him through faith will get you there.
These Bible verses about uncertainty are so powerful! I have been drawn to Philippians chapter 4 especially for years. 📖📚
This is awesome! We do live in uncertain times but the God Who is sovereign over all watches over us. Beautiful Bible Verses you have added for us, too. I am definitely one who wants to be in control all the time. Can you imagine if we really knew everything coming up. I think we would all be fearful of knowing when we will pass etc. God is good. He knows what He is doing and I have to trust Him at all times. Thank you for this beautiful post sweet sister. I love the way you write … ❤
This is right on with a situation I’ve been dealing with. Really great post!!
Great post! Prayer is such an essential piece!
