Do you feel stressed and burnt out? Or do you feel stuck? Or do you wonder where you will go next?
It could be because you are living out of alignment with God’s purpose for your life. Being out of alignment is easier than you think. It makes us feel anxious, frustrated, unfulfilled and even worthless.
I used to try to build my life without consulting God first. While I had temporary satisfaction, I was always left with wanting more. Nothing was ever good enough because I was placing my value and worth in the wrong things. It was a lot harder to do it on my own and it was downright exhausting.
Planning outside of seeking God’s will never gets us very far. We might get success but will always be left empty and stressed out. We must continually seek to align our hearts with God’s.
Living in alignment with God’s purpose for your life is so important to preventing stress and burnout. It gives us a greater sense of being by knowing we are doing things that align with the desires of God. That’s not to say the road won’t be hard at times, but we can trust in the fact that God has given us everything we need to do the good, kingdom work.

Bible Verses about Living in Alignment
Whenever I feel out of alignment with God’s purpose, I turn to the Bible for help. The Lord has great plans for you!
Proverbs 16:3: Commit your work to the Lord and your plans will be established.
1 John 5:14: And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
Psalm 143:10: Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
Psalm 119:133: Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
Micah 6:8: He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
What is God’s Purpose For Your Life?
In essence, it is what God has you on this earth to do at this point of your life. It can be anything from a stay-at-home mom to a teacher to a nonprofit leader or an entrepreneur, literally the list goes on. And it can change at different points in your journey.
The work we do is important to God. In fact it is the most vital work, because we were commissioned to share the Gospel and bring light to the dark world. Each opportunity that we have been called to can be a mission field that brings glory to His kingdom.
Are you a stay-at-home mom for this season? – How can you train your kids to grow up to be image bearers and serve others?
Are you an entrepreneur for this season? – How can you use your “status” to show love and light to clients?
Are you an employee for this season? – How can you share the good news of the gospel with your co-workers through your words and actions?
What a joy and privilege to live in alignment with God’s purpose! And know that He will be with us every step of the way.
5 Steps to Live in Alignment with God’s Purpose
You were created on purpose and for purpose. God takes pleasure in his creation (YOU!) and created you for your good and His glory. You and I have a purpose because God declared it before the foundation of the world.
It can take time to know what your purpose is and what God has called you to do. Ask yourself what lights you up, what brings fulfillment and joy, and what makes you feel like you are living on purpose. Then pray about it!
Discover Who You Are In Christ
The first step to living in alignment is understanding and discovering who you are in Christ. You can do so by actively reading the Word. The Bible is filled with verses on who God is and who He says you are. You will discover that God created you with a unique, precious and valuable purpose. By understanding who you are, you will be empowered to live the greater life that He desires for you.
You are….
Created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27)
Called to be set apart (Romans 12:2)
Chosen before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:10)
Made an heir of the kingdom (Romans 8:17)
Fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
Given peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6)
Equipped to do good work (2 Timothy 3:17)
Align Your Values and Mission
In order to find out what your purpose is, you must do the introspective work of what you value in life. Where you place your time and energy will determine if you are aligning with God’s purpose or not. Spend time in prayer and ask God what he values so that the desires of your heart will be aligned with His.
Then look into whether or not your life is living in alignment with your values and mission. It’s up to you, with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, to change your ways and live life on purpose.
Aligning your values and mission will allow you to set healthy boundaries as well as leave you so much more fulfilled in your calling.
Identify Your Talents and Passions
God gives us each unique talents and passions. These are used to help us live in alignment with His purpose. Set aside time to pray and write about what brings you joy and what you are naturally good at. It is a good time to reflect on what God has given you and how you can use that to live out your purpose. No matter what, if God called you, He will qualify you!
Get Rid of Distractions
Sometimes what keeps us from living in alignment is the busyness we distract ourselves with. We feel like we have to be doing something, anything, even if it brings us no satisfaction. Getting rid of distractions can free up our time and mind to see what God has in store for us. It will also help you glorify God in the process.
Seek the Holy Spirit’s Guidance
The Holy Spirit is our greatest helper and guide. He intercedes on our behalf and shows us how to live in alignment with God’s will.
When identifying what your purpose is, it is important to remind yourself to let go of control and what plans you had for your life. You surrender completely and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. God’s plans are so much greater!
You trust and have faith that even though you might not see all the steps laid out, you know all things will work out for your good and God’s glory. Living in alignment allows the Holy Spirit to show up in unimaginable ways.
Prayer for Living in Alignment with God’s Purpose
We were never meant to do life alone and could all use help along the way. If you are concerned if you are living in alignment, ask for clarity, guidance and assistance. God will answer you and remind you of the purpose he has given you. He will give you strength, wisdom and confidence to live in alignment.
“Dear Lord, I come before you to discern what you have called me to do. Give me the faith and courage to step out and be courageous in response to where you guide me. Help to see the bigger picture of bringing glory to your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
If you ask me, there is nothing more beautiful than living in alignment with God’s purpose for your life. You will find so much joy and fulfillment when you know you are aligned with God.
